After years of inaction on climate here in Maine, Governor Mills is keeping her campaign promise to tackle the climate crisis.

The governor recently introduced legislation — LD 1679 — to establish a climate council to create a bold climate action plan to reduce Maine’s greenhouse gas emissions 80% by 2050 and to transition the state to 100% clean energy in the same time frame. A climate council would develop this action plan with input from Mainers on the front lines of climate change, including fishermen, farmers, and public health leaders.

This bill is an important first step to tackle the pending climate crisis, and we must make sure our lawmakers know how much public support this plan has.
