Our communities rely on Maine’s 3,000+ miles of coastline, as well as a clean, healthy ocean to thrive. But right now, our ocean remains vulnerable to the expansion of dirty and dangerous offshore oil drilling. From toxic oil spills that shut down fisheries, to the decades of fossil fuel emissions new drilling would lock in, offshore drilling is a bad deal for Maine. Right now, federal legislation is being considered that would permanently protect our coast from offshore drilling, securing the economic and environmental health of communities that have previously been left vulnerable to the threat of drilling off their shores. Join Nancy Downes, Oceana’s New England Senior Field Representative, as we discuss the threat offshore drilling poses to Mainers, and how we can protect our coast once and for all.
